Handle your puppy with care at least 3 times a day.  Allow your puppy to explore
their new  home and encourage them to play.  Remember, your puppy looks to
you for direction, comfort and protection.  Everything is new to them, so they
may not be playful and frisky immediately.  Give them time and talk to them and
they will soon learn to respond to your voice and commands.  Speak to them
often and gently and always treat them kindly.   Feed your puppy twice daily if
you are trying to potty train it.   Make sure it has fresh water at all times.  Your
puppy will soon know which special little area of your home is theirs.  Respect
their right to be undisturbed while resting, sleeping and eating.
Massage their feet and brush them often to get them used to nail clipping  and
grooming.  This is a good bonding time with your puppy.  The key to effective
training is Consistency.  Praise rather than punish.  HAVE  PATIENCE!

The first few words your puppy should learn are: Puppy's name, Good, Bad, No,
Come, Stay and Go outside (potty).  Puppies need to relieve themselves after
eating, drinking or sleeping. Take them to the same area outside and praise
them when they potty.  There are a few simple rules to follow in training your
puppy: Be firm, but gentle. Be consistent.  Follow through with each command.
Never hit or strike your puppy for disobeying. Always reward your puppy for
good behavior with plenty of praise and positive reinforcement or with a small
kibble of puppy food.

These supplies are recommended based on my experiences.  
They should be ready before you pick up your puppy.  There
may be car sickness on the first ride home, holding the puppy
in your lap may help prevent this.
